Indonesia's earthquake

Taken from BBC, and god knows whatever is going to happen next.

At least four people have been killed and dozens injured after a series of powerful earthquakes hit eastern Indonesia, officials say.

The strongest tremor, with a magnitude of 7.6, struck north of the city of Manokwari in West Papua province at 0443 on Sunday (1943 GMT).

It was followed by another big quake and a string of aftershocks.

Witnesses said the tremors triggered mass panic in Manokwari, where several buildings were flattened.

A tsunami alert was issued by Indonesian authorities following the earthquakes, but withdrawn within an hour.

Assessment teams and medical supplies are expected to arrive in the remote region, some 2,955km (1,830 miles) east of Indonesia's capital Jakarta, within the next 24 hours.

The first quake struck on land about 95 miles (150km) north of Manokwari at a depth of 22 miles (35km), the US Geological Agency said. It was followed by another tremor and aftershocks.

The BBC's Lucy Williamson said eyewitnesses described crowds of people running terrified through the streets of the region's main city amid fears of a tsunami.

Among the four victims of the quakes was a 10-year-old girl who was crushed by a falling wall, officials said.

At least 37 people were injured and were being treated in hospitals.

An official with the World Vision aid organisation said 10 buildings had been totally destroyed, including several hotels and the house of a government official.

Officials said three people, who had been staying at the Mutiara hotel in Manokwari, were pulled alive from the rubble and taken to hospital.

Electricity was also cut off in the city with a population of some 160,000 people.

Japan's Meteorological Agency told Reuters news agency the earthquakes also triggered a small tsunami which hit the Japanese coast, but did not cause any damage.

A huge quake off western Indonesia on 26 December 2004 caused a massive tsunami that killed around 230,000 people around the region.

That said, we should be thankful and learn to appreciate every little things that we have right now. What if our country fell into the same fate as Indonesia? Everyday, we complain about almost everything in our lives. But in truth, we really don't have the rights to complain. Enough with the fights. Enough with the ignorance.

Just remember that there will always be someone else out there that is less fortunate than us. Amin.

2009 - Not just another new year

And so, 2008 has closed it's eyes, and we're already in 2009 now. The only word i can utter out is, "Damn, what a year it was.." . For some people, it may be just another new year, but for me, it's a special and hopefully a motivating one. :)

Looking back at what i've done for the past few years, i can't help but to say that i was so immature, and, stupid. A lot of things happened, be it a sad or happy ones. One of the most important lesson that i've learnt is that YOU CAN'T ALWAYS HAVE EVERYTHING YOU WANT.

wtf am i ranting here. haha. Anyway, enough with the emo-ness - off to the brightside now!

So me and the geng went to celebrate new year together at our usual spot, which is The Curve. Crowded as usual. Mabuk here, mabuk there, gaduh here, gaduh there. The open air spot in front of cineleisure was like a tin of sardine - it's packed and full with your typical highschool kids, and did i mentioned how young they were? I think most of them are under 15 -___- Back when our school days, we really don't have that kind of freedom. I guess time really changes our culture.

Not sure who was it, but one of us suggested to headover cineleisure's rooftop. Thankfully, not so many people were there and it is sooo much better than standing lifelessly at the open air. At least here, we could sit down - or baring baring, if you prefer to. :) The sky was clear, and we could definitely see the fireworks clearly this year :D

After we settled down at our spot, we waited patiently for the sacred 00:00 of 1st January 2009 together. As usual, we cracked jokes together and took a few photos while laughing our ass out there. We really didn't noticed the time, until -

HAPPY NEW YEAR

And off went the fireworks. What a sight it was. Whoever invented firework is really a genius.

I could write more and more, but sad to say, i fell sick today and my body really need that sleep and recharge my energy. So with this, i wish everyone who is reading this a HAPPY, MERRY, JOLLY, NEW YEAR !!
